This week we have the very talented and beautiful Claudia Lovisa on the decks. Claudia has produced a 60 minute master class of deep underground tech tunes with tracks from Audiofly, DOP and Maya Jane Coles to name a few.

Claudia is most notably renowned as one half of successful DJ and production duo Amelie, 2010 has seen Claudia making huge waves in her own right, as a solo artist on the international underground music scene.

Claudia – who took up permanent residence in Ibiza in 2010 – has spent much of the year locked away in the studio, honing and fine-tuning her undeniably addictive sounds. Sexy, upfront and engaging house packed with solid grooves, standout melodies, and a true underground edge.

Her fluid and intriguing sets have resulted in a huge demand for Claudia to perform all around the world, from clandestine underground parties to the world’s best clubs. Standout gigs include the Miami WMC, San Juan Festival at Sonar, Germany’s Love Parade, Rooftop Moscow, Vertigo in Costa Rica, D-Edge in Brazil, Mamitas Beach Club in Playa del Carmen, Gotica in Columbia and Pacha Ibiza.

Her mixing skills have enabled her to play along side luminaries like Steve Bug, Audiofly, Konrad Black, Damian Lazarus, Nick Curly and Robert Dietz and in September 2010 she became a resident for the infamous London party Excuse The Mess.

She’s come along way since her teenage years, back in her hometown of Durban, South Africa. At the tender age of 15, Claudia – who is also of Italian descent – was first introduced to house music through an older group of friends involved in the local music scene. Her keen passion for vinyl and mixing developed as She spent hours hanging around the DJ booth of her favourite club listening to UK and US house and she was heavily inspired by the infectious sound and attitude of the music.

In 2000, the 19-year old packed her bags for London and took her first steps on a dedicated musical career path, quickly scoring a string of residencies and guest slots across London, including clubs like The Cross, The End and numerous other east end parties such as Retox.

In 2006 Claudia crossed paths with DJ Sophie Oliver and embarked on a Music Production course at the SAE institute of London and further formed the duo known as Amelie.

Claudia soon found her feet as a producer and Amelie were signed to Audiofly’s Supernature Label with their first release in 2008, ‘Under the Radar’, a collaboration with Audiofly. With rave reviews, The girls went on to remix for fellow supernature artists Alex Niggeman, Fabbio Gianelli, Kabuto & Koji and released other remixes and ep’s on labels such as Uberbeat , 1trax and SK Supreme. Their latest release, Seal the Silence EP which came out on Supernature in mid March 2011.

Looking forward into 2011, Claudia is focusing on solo projects with her debut EP due to be released in the next few months.

Next up is Mihalis Safras who brings down house collective mix of house tracks...

The Greek DJ/producer Mihalis Safras has a long history in the electronic music scene of Greece, becoming one of his home country's most celebrated DJs. Over the course of the last decade he has tirelessly established himself as one of the Mediterranean's most promising and hard working artists, appearing on at least a dozen 12 inches last year alone.

Through remixes such as his epic reworking of Dubfires anthemic 'Roadkill' Mihalis has developed a proud refined style that is progressive and functional and led to widespread support from the likes of: Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Ricardo Villalobos.

TechHouse can seemingly be said to broadly fall into two categories. There is the type that is all too familiar, and while proving powerful on the dance floor maintains all of the straight lines and heavy structure of traditional techno. There are also the more mature, experimental and creative productions that curiously peer into the creative and exciting unknown.

Both in the studio and in the DJ booth Mihalis demonstrates the natural absorbed characteristics of one of the leading underground techno talents.

Dualton

A symbiosis is defined as the association of two different species which is beneficial for both partners. A myriad of examples shows that such cooperations can as well bear fruits when it comes to electronic music. Having gained a reputation as successful solo artists, it was therefore only a matter of time that the two like-minded musicians Robert and Patrick would, driven by 4/4 bass drums, launch the project “Dualton”.

Dualton is all about sending the party crowd into ecstasies with an energetic and vigorous mixture of techno, minimal and house music no matter whether they make an appearance as DJs themselves or act as producers.

Outstanding DJ gigs in well known clubs and productions on many different record labels like Rompecabeza, Save Room, Force Sense, Restart, Twisted Frequency, Global Underground and Bedrock Records, speak for themselves.

Expect big things from Dualton with A lot of releases, remixes and collaborations on imprints like Defected and Supernature are planned 2011 is going to be massive for them. Devotees of electronic music be warned - if Dualton is in the house, itʼs gonna be a night to remember

They say you can’t keep a good man down. Similarly you can’t keep a talented producer down, nor can you keep him in a box. A figurative box that is. Italian producer an DJ Santos astounds year after year with his diverse and consistently inspiring productions, showing that if you’ve got the raw talent, you can indeed be a jack of all trades and master of all of them too. He’s one of those people whose creativity seems to know no bounds and needs to be indulged constantly.

Thanks to M.in and Santos for two excellent sets. And I will see you all next week for another Tinker Podcast.

After a bit of a break we our back with two mixes. The first mix is by Antonio De Angelis AKA Toni D. Superb mix of dark trippy techy vibes! and the second set is by Miamis Lazaro Casanova.

In case you havent come across Toni D before here is the lowdown on this very talented London DJ and Producer...

Whether under his own name or that of his alias Toni D, Antonio De Angelis has consistently turned out exciting releases on a number of great labels. Antonio started his career in southern Italy where he took part in some of the most important events back in the day. In 2000 he moved to London and with his very genuine character and his passion for house music he made his own way up and got himself to play at the most important clubs & parties in town. He eventually got his residency at Kubicle, the best after party in London. In the meantime he was constantly involved in music production with ever increasing success and love for techno… 2010 has seen him release music on Trapez, Tenax ,Paulatine, Off, Climatic Sound, and he is fresh from his debut 4 track EP on Steve Lawler‘s Viva Music. A key mover on the London party scene, Antonio is now building a strong reputation through his music. His last appearance on Safari was alongside label chief Arnaud Le Texier on ‘Down Is The New Up’ EP. We are all aware of his House talents, but on ‘The Relative Size Of A Planet‘ E.P., again on Safari, Antonio reveals a darker, more sinister, side showing that there is great versatility here and with no doubt much more to come…

Ryan Thompson has quickly established himself as one of the freshest and exciting upcoming producers coming out Ireland in recent times. His productions have been making a big impact; gaining support from from Carl Cox, Dubfire, Marco Carola, Anderson Noise and Pig & Dan.

Don't Speak brings on the fill force of Thompson's twisted grooves. Sultry and hypnotic, the percussion gives off a carnival vibe while the heavy atmospherics and drawn out breakdown add a wigged out druggy feel.

Jon Gurd has been drafted in for remix duties, applying his well schooled studio craft to produce an interesting foil to the original mix; pushing a more linear, slightly tougher groove for the more electronic floors.

This week the Italoboyz take control of the Tinker Podcast with a 2 hour live recording from there gig at Flying Circus @ Watergate.

Since arriving in London at the beginning of the new millennium, Italoboyz, aka Marco Donato and Federico Marton, have become an essential fixture of the capital’s small but passionate house/techno/minimal scene. From their notorious back-to-back DJ sets at FESH (333, London), their reputation has grown to the point where they can now be found playing regularly across the planet. However, it’s not just the energy and flair of their DJ sets that has captured the imagination, Italoboyz releases now on some of today’s most influential minimal-house / techno labels like Mothership and Get Physical, after starting to work in 2005/2006 with label like Treibstoff, Einmaleins Musik, Gumption and Safari Electronique.

"When you realize that without moving there won’t be any change, you move…" explains Marco, so that’s exactly what they did, swapping their native Italy for London (Marco in 2001 and Fede in 2002), urged on by separate desires to go deeper and get more involved in electronic music. It was this fusion of minds, with complementary ways of both absorbing and communicating electronic music that inspired them to team up and form Italoboyz in 2002. Since then they haven’t stopped moving forward, obsessively exploring the hybrid sounds of house and techno through their love of minimalism, acid-house and hi-tech funk.

Although their sound has always been characterized by organic elements along with large doses of funk and energy, the distinctive flavor of their productions and DJ sets is down to a willingness to embrace and explore the various genres and sub-genres that develop out of this constantly evolving music. One of the reasons Italoboyz productions are so well received is the fact that their musical expression is a fusion of sounds, themes and ideas resulting from over 15 years of music research and DJing experience. Their aim is to deliver the most modern, cutting edge sound possible but it should still resonate through time, both past and future, in order to make the immediate experience all the more seductive.
